BCSS Spelling Bee
The Barrow County School System District Spelling Bee brings together top spellers from each school to compete in a challenging and exciting academic event. Students showcase their vocabulary skills, confidence, and poise as they advance through increasingly difficult rounds. This annual competition celebrates academic excellence and highlights the hard work and dedication of participating students. The winner will go on to represent the district at the regional level.
2026 DISTRICT SPELLING BEE
Congratulations to Hailey Zuniga, a 7th grader from Russell Middle School, for winning the Barrow County School System 2026 District Spelling Bee!
The runner-up is Jude Bastedo, a 8th grader from Arts & Innovation Magnet Program. If Hailey is unable to compete in the Region 3 competition, Jude will take her place as the BCSS representative.
We wish Hailey good luck for the next round and congratulate all of our 2026 school level Spelling Bee champions and alternates!

After 20 exciting rounds, the 2020 Barrow County School System Spelling Bee ended with Russell Middle School 7th grader KJ Long correctly spelling the word "hurriedly" to become the champion! The runner-up is Keely Schmook, a 6th grader at Haymon-Morris Middle School.
