PATHWAY COURSE & DESCRIPTIONS:
Course 1—Introduction to Law, Public Safety, Corrections and Security - 43.45000
This course will examine the basic concepts of law related to citizens’ rights and responsibilities along with exploring career opportunities in the Law and Public Safety field. Students will receive information and training in the following areas:
- Dangers in Public Safety (Gangs, Drugs/DUI, Disease)
- Handcuffing and Fingerprinting
- CERT (Disaster Preparedness, CPR, First Aid, Fire prevention)
- Terrorism (International and Domestic)
- Criminal and Civil Law
Course 2—Criminal Justice Essentials - 43.45100
This course will examine the history and evolution of the police force as well as the court system. Students will learn skills related to:
- Traffic and Patrol Operations (Accident Reconstruction, Traffic stops, Types of Patrol)
- Civil and Criminal Laws Mock Trial (Pre-trial procedures, steps in a trial, creation of a trial)
- Police procedure
- Sentencing options (including research on the death penalty)
Course 3—Applications of Corrections - 43.45700
This course provides an analysis of all phases of the American Correctional System and practices, including the history, procedures and objectives. Topics include the history and evolution of correctional facilities; legal and administrative problems; institutional facilities and procedures; probation, parole and pre-release programs; alternative sentencing; rehabilitation; effects and costs of recidivism; community involvement; officer safety; and staffing.

Firefighter I:
The Firefighter I Technical Certificate of Credit program is conducted in cooperation with the Georgia Fire Academy and Georgia Firefighter Standards and Training to ensure graduates have the skills, knowledge and credentials to serve as firefighters in paid and volunteer fire departments. Graduates will be tested and certified at the state level. Program graduates receive a Firefighter I Technical Certificate of Credit.

FRSC 1020 Basic FF/EMS Fundamentals (3)
FRSC 1030 Basic Firefighter-Module I (5)
FRSC 1040 Basic Firefighter-Module II (3)
FRSC 1141 Hazardous Materials Operator (4)
PHYSICAL FITNESS & ADDITIONAL EQUIPMENT REQUIREMENTS
This program requires that the student have National Fire Protection Association’s (NFPA) Standard 1582, standard on medical requirements for Fire Fighters, or a physician’s release to participate. All candidates should be in excellent condition. Additional physical fitness requirements may be added based on any revisions to NFPA Standards or action taken by Georgia Firefighter Standards and Training Council. Students are required to rent or purchase NFPA compliant Personal Protective Equipment (turn out gear).

PROGRAM LENGTH & AVAILABILITY
- 1 Semester
- Campus Availability: Hall, Barrow
- Students are accepted Spring and Fall Semesters based on course and space availability.
- Students must be 18 years old to sit for ProBoard testing. Tests must be taken within one year of program completion.
- Students must complete each course with a grade of C or higher before progressing to the next course.
ADMISSIONS REQUIREMENTS
- Must be 18 years of age.
- High school diploma or GED is required prior to admission. (Official transcripts or GED scores must be submitted from all colleges and/or high schools attended for credit.)
- ACCUPLACER Testing, or submit SAT, ACT, COMPASS, or ASSET test scores.
FINANCIAL AID
This program is not eligible for the Pell Grant, but may be eligible for Institutional and State Financial Aid. Contact a Financial Aid Counselor for eligibility requirements and application materials.

Course 3—Forensics Science and Criminal Investigations - 43.45200
This course provides students with the opportunity to examine the basic principles of forensic science and criminal investigations. Including investigative procedures used in:
- Fingerprinting and analysis
- Interviews and interrogations
- Evaluating criminal behavior
- Gathering and Preserving evidence (DNA, Blood Spatter Analysis, Cast molds)
- Human Remains.
This course satisfies the 4th science requirement.
