Youth Mental Health First Aid

Youth Mental Health First Aid

Project AWARE successfully conducted its inaugural Youth Mental Health First Aid (YMHFA) course. This significant event brought together School Resource Officers (SROs), school nurses, special education teachers, and transportation supervisors for a comprehensive day of training.

Participants delved into the common mental health challenges faced by adolescents and were introduced to a five-step action plan designed to assist youth in both crisis and non-crisis situations. This training is crucial in equipping school personnel with the skills needed to support the mental well-being of students.

The course, held in the training room graciously provided by SIMS, marks the beginning of a series of YMHFA courses that Project AWARE plans to roll out over the next few years. The initiative underscores the commitment to fostering a supportive and informed community capable of addressing the mental health needs of young people.
