As another layer of safety, middle and high school students will soon be given photo identification decals to place on their Chromebooks. The decals will have the student’s photo, name, school, and student ID number. Adding the decal to the Chromebook will allow school staff to look at the sticker as needed as the Chromebooks are passed to them each morning before students walk through the weapons detection devices.
“You have an opportunity there to confirm who they are, if there’s any question, and our scanning team can get to know students even better which is also a great safety tool for us,” said Assistant Superintendent of Support Services Dr. James Bowen.
Every student in grades 6 to 12 is issued a system Chromebook each school year. They will add the decal to the outside of the device. If a student doesn’t have a decal and our staff doesn’t know who they are (for example, a new student or someone they don’t recognize), staff will greet them, identify them, and resolve why they don’t have a decal.
The goal is to have the decals to the schools for distribution during March. Principals will share more details with staff and students at that time.
