Student Arrest & Called Board Meeting

logo

BCSS Family,

This afternoon, the Barrow County Sheriff's Office arrested a student at Apalachee High School after reports of having a gun on campus. Our School Resource Officers (SRO), along with school administration, responded immediately to secure the student and the weapon. No threat was made. School is cancelled at AHS for Thursday, Jan. 9 in response to this incident.

We understand this brings up many different feelings in each of us. The Barrow County Board of Education has called a meeting for 4 p.m. tomorrow, Jan. 9 to discuss in Executive Session the immediate safety enhancement options for our schools.

We will update you all following the board meeting tomorrow with any changes regarding school procedures.

Thank you for your support and care. We are grateful for the continued dedication to safety from our SROs and staff.

Dr. Dallas LeDuff, BCSS Superintendent
