Sept. 9 Update

sept 9

BCSS Family,

Tomorrow, we will open our doors to our students as they return to most of our schools. Additional counselors, as well as therapy dogs, will be there for them. The Barrow County Sheriff’s Department and other law enforcement agencies will also be at our schools to provide additional security.

As a reminder, Apalachee High School will not reopen tomorrow. We will share those plans with AHS families as soon as they are finalized.

Last night, we joined our CHEE family during a powerful candlelight vigil. Today, our Apalachee team joined together to spend time in their building and meet with students who came to get their things. Support staff from BCSS and across the region were there to offer counseling to our families.

At the Central Office today, our principals and system leaders heard from Dr. David Schonfeld, an expert in school crisis support. Dr. Schonfeld is a developmental-behavioral pediatrician and Professor of Clinical Pediatrics at Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California and Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. He will be here all week to offer guidance to our team.

Our Barrow community is stronger together and we thank you for your support.

Dr. Dallas LeDuff
Superintendent, Barrow County School System
