Celebrating Student Athletic Achievements

Barrow County School System student-athletes were recognized for their athletic achievements throughout the 2023-24 school year during the June Board of Education meeting.

The students and teams listed below were celebrated for their achievements at the Region or State level.

Apalachee High School

Softball

• Alyssa Willer: Region 8-AAAAAA Offensive Player of the Year; GACA 1st Team All-State; Signed to Georgia Tech
• Ryleigh Sapp: Region 8-AAAAAA Pitcher of the Year for Softball; Signed to Lipscomb University

Baseball

• Baseball Team: Region 8-AAAAAA Champions (first time in school history!)

Baseball & Basketball

• Nate Valles: Region 8-AAAAAA Two-Way Player of the Year for Baseball; 1st Team All-Region 8-AAAAAA in Basketball; Signed to Marion Military Institute for baseball

Barrow Arts & Sciences Academy

• Boys Soccer: Advanced to 2nd round of the Class A Division 1 State Playoffs
• Track: GHSA Class A Division 1 State Championship
  • Jacob Carruthers: 1st place - High jump, 200-meter, & 400-meter
  • Akira Medlock: 4th place - 400-meter dash
  • Bailey Wise: 6th place - High Jump
  • Aaliyah Simmonds: 7th place - 100-meter dash
  • Emma Busbee, Emma Lewis, Maya Tuz, Devan Howard: 7th place - 4x8 Team
• Competitive Dance: GHSA Class A Division 1 State Championship 2nd Place Team in High Kick
• Cross Country: GHSA Class A Division 1 State Championship
  • Michael Fletcher- 9th place

Winder-Barrow High School

• Track & Field
  • AJ Johnson: 8-AAAAA Region Champ - 300m Hurdles
  • Shawn White: 8-AAAAA Region Champ - Long Jump
• Riflery: Area 4 Champions
• Basketball: Advanced to GHSA Final Four 8-AAAAA Championship
