Fine Arts Achievements

We are proud to share the achievements of our Fine Arts programs at our middle and high schools! Many detailed below include ratings from the Georgia Music Educators Association Large Group Performance Evaluation (LGPE).

Bear Creek Middle School
Bill McKay, Band & Derlie Morales-Nunez, Chorus

• 1 student: GMEA District Honor Band
• 7 students: GMEA first-year Honor Band
• 8th Grade Band: Superior rating on stage for LGPE
• 7 students: UGA Midfest
• 2 students: GMEA Jazz Honor Band
• 8th Grade: Excellent ratings in their LGPE stage performance and in sight-reading
• 7th Grade: Excellent ratings for their stage performance and a superior rating in their sight-reading

Haymon-Morris Middle School
William Threadgill, Band & Joseph Hasty, Chorus

• 7th Grade Band: Superior ratings on stage and superior in sight-reading
• 8th Grade Band: Superior ratings on stage and superior in sight-reading
• 2 students: District Honor Band
• 8 Sixth graders: GMEA first-year Honor Band
• 3 Seventh and Eighth graders: GMEA Jazz Honor Band
• 5 students: District Honor Chorus
• Full Choral Program performed National Anthem at UGA Gymnastics meet
• 7th/8th Grade Chorus: Good ratings on stage and an excellent in sight-reading at LGPE
• Students performed The Claw the Children’s Musical

Russell Middle School
Chris McCarver, Band & Carlos Tejada-Mahomar, Chorus

• 2 students: District Honor Band
• 6 students: ENCORE Band Camp during the Summer, wrapping up 30 years of support from RMS through the Hasty Scholarship
• 6 students: GMEA first-year Honor Band

Westside Middle School
Rachel Muldrow, Band & Greg Slusher, Chorus

• Beginning Band: Excellent ratings on stage and superior in sight-reading
• 7th Grade Band: Excellent ratings on stage and superior in sight-reading
• 8th Grade Band: Excellent ratings on stage and superior in sight-reading
• 1 student: District Honor Band
• 8 Sixth graders: GMEA first-year Honor Band
• 3 Eighth graders: GMEA Jazz Honor Band
• 4 students: Sixth grade statewide honor chorus
• 7th/8th Grade Chorus: Superior ratings on stage and an excellent in sight-reading at LGPE
• Grant awarded for new chorus risers

Apalachee High School
Dion Muldrow, Band & Doug Grant, Chorus

• Apalachee Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band and Concert Band: Superior ratings in stage performance and in sight-reading
• 3 students: Reinhardt University Honor Band Clinic
• 7 students: GMEA District 14 Honor Band
• 1 student: GMEA 9-10 All-State Band; 1 student selected as 1st alternate to the 9-10 All-State Band
• 3 jazz ensembles on slate to perform at District Jazz Performance Evaluation
• Apalachee Swing Cats selected to perform at the Georgia College and State University Jazz Festival
• Apalachee Marching Cats earned superiors at its marching competition and placed 1st in Class AAAA at the Georgia Contest of Champions in September 2022
• Ensembles earned Superior ratings for sight-reading at LGPE
• Advanced Mixed Chorus: Excellent rating at LGPE
• Advanced Women's Chorus earned a Superior rating at LGPE
• 1 student: GMEA All-State Chorus
• 4 graduating seniors continuing education in music performance and music education, including some scholarships
• 23 students performed at UGA Choral Day
• 4 students performed at the GHSA Literary Meet
• Many choir members participate in the AHS chapter of Tri-M Music Honor Society, an after-school club focusing on community service

Barrow Arts & Sciences Academy
Cheri Schreibman, Band & Haley Mitchell, Chorus

• Symphonic Band received Superior ratings on stage at LGPE
• 4 students: JanFest at UGA
• 2 students: Middle School District Honor Band
• 2 students: High School District Honor Band
• 1 student: Top Honor Band at University of South Carolina Band Clinic
• 1 student: GMEA All State Band
• 9 students: District Honor Chorus
• 18 students: participated in UGA Choral Day
• 1 student: All State Chorus
• 1 student accepted in GHP for Summer 2023
• 37 students will be inducted into BASA Music Honor Society in May 2023
• Students presented the musical Mamma Mia with 4 sold out shows

Winder-Barrow High School
Ashley Floyd, Band & Brian Presley, Chorus

• WBHS Symphonic Band, Concert Band I, and Concert Band II: superior ratings in stage performance and in sight-reading at LGPE
• 2 students: Reinhardt University Honor Band Clinic
• 9 students: JanFest at UGA
• 13 students: GMEA District 14 Honor Band
• 1 student: GMEA 9-10 All-State Band; 2 students: GMEA 11-12 All-State Band and percussion ensemble
• WBHS will perform in the District Jazz Performance Evaluation
• 4 students: GMEA District 14 Honor Jazz Ensemble
• The Winder-Barrow Bulldogg Band: Superior ratings at its marching competition
• WBHS Symphonic Band gave the World Premier of Spectra by Louisiana-based composer Ben Robichaux. The recording of our premier is now featured on the publisher’s website. Similarly, the Concert band will premier the work of two of our graduating seniors on our spring concert.
