BCSS Receives Literacy Grant

Georgia Department of Education Logo

The Georgia Department of Education awarded grants to help school districts improve early literacy outcomes. The funding specifically supports students with dyslexia following the passing of S.B. 48, which requires local school systems to begin screening all kindergarten students and certain students in grades 1-3 for characteristics of dyslexia beginning in 2024-25.

Grants were awarded to Title I schools to meet the needs outlined in their improvement plans to address closing the gap and making progress in literacy.

The Barrow County School System was awarded the "Readiness in Literacy Grant" for the 2021-2022 school year. We received $122,683 to be used at five elementary schools: Auburn, Bethlehem, Bramlett, County Line, and Winder. Funds will be used to provide professional development for teachers and supplies.
