On Thursday, Feb. 25, Governor Kemp announced Georgia is expanding vaccine eligibility, meaning Georgia teachers and school staff are eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine beginning March 8.
Barrow County School System is working closely with the Northeast Health District to finalize our vaccine distribution plan. We are now waiting to find out when vaccines are available and if we can vaccinate all pre-registered staff on the same day. Once we know this information, we will schedule the vaccine distribution date.
As we shared on February 8 in our vaccine distribution plan, BCSS will plan to hold a digital learning day for students when our staff receives their first vaccine dose. We anticipate it will be within two weeks of March 8. Much like a snow day, we may have little advanced notice. Please make sure your family has a plan in place for the digital learning day.
Once a date is scheduled, we will notify our families and staff immediately to plan accordingly. The digital learning day will be asynchronous*, so teachers will be available as needed for their vaccine appointment.
Thank you for your flexibility as we plan this important event.
*Asynchronous learning occurs when students can access recorded information and complete work on their own (independently). Students are required to access classroom lessons and materials and submit their assignments to their teachers using Google Classroom.
