School Nutrition Heroes

May 1, 2020 is School Lunch Hero Day! While we greatly appreciate the wonderful work of our School Nutrition team every day, this gives us a special time to recognize them for all the amazing ways they care for students. The numbers alone show how hard they work to feed children. 

So far this year, our 116 school nutrition employees have prepared:

• 1,231,342 lunches
• 1,056,689 breakfasts
• 131,432 after school snacks

Since the school closure, our incredible team has prepared approximately 144,000 breakfasts and lunches for grab-n-go pick up at the high schools and for deliveries to homes. They also prepare multiple meals on Tuesdays and Fridays to make sure students have food for five days a week. 

During the school year while buildings were open, the Sims Academy school nutrition team would prepare and transport meals for students at the Alternative Education Program. The team at Winder Elementary would do the same for students at the Center for Innovative Technology. 

They do it all with love because they truly care about making sure children are fed. We are thankful for our School Nutrition Heroes!
