Deigh Martin is an Assistant Principal at Apalachee High School who works tirelessly to make sure students are successful in school. Her care and concern for the well-being of all students at Apalachee is visible daily. Ms. Martin is always willing to stop and help a student in need regardless of the circumstance. The amazing thing about her is that she does this in addition to supporting the teachers and staff of the school. Ms. Martin will always drop what she is doing to help students and staff alike. She plays an integral role in the success of Apalachee High School and is pivotal in helping students reach the finish line of graduation.
On any given day, you will find her having one-on-one conversations with students. These conversations help students get back on the right path after they have made a bad choice. She also is very realistic with students about their behaviors and approaches to school. The honesty she brings to the conversations helps the students reflect on what they are doing and leads to a great deal of student growth. Because of this, students trust and respect her. They know she has their best interests at heart.
Ms. Martin’s concern is that all students are finding success. She and the Graduation Specialist for Apalachee, Andy Dean, will travel to Horizon once a month to meet with students and develop plans to make sure they are thriving. These check-ins have helped those students know that even though they are not physically at Apalachee, they are still students that Apalachee cares about. These visits often help change the trajectories of a lot of these students’ lives and Ms. Martin is integral in those turnarounds.
Ms. Martin also has one of the biggest hearts you will ever see and is always willing to pitch in to help a student in need. She will often pool together resources to make sure some of our less fortunate students have a little birthday or holiday treat. This care and concern for the well-being of students is indicative of how she approaches every day at Apalachee.
These are just some of the examples of what Ms. Martin does to help students graduate from Apalachee. She is a true asset to the school and her actions continually make it a better place.
We are proud of our students who are on the “Grad Track.” A Grad Track student has either failed one or more academic classes and/or is behind in credits needed for graduation with their cohort class. Graduation Specialists at all three Barrow County School System (BCSS) high schools support students who meet these qualifications.
