Please help us welcome Dr. Peter Jones as the new Director of Secondary Education. Dr. Jones comes to Barrow County School System from Gwinnett County where he served as the Community School Director at the Gwinnett School of Mathematics, Science and Technology. He started his career in public education in 1995 and has experience as a teacher, assistant principal, and principal.
As Director of Secondary Education, Dr. Jones will coordinate Middle and High School Curriculum, Instruction, and Gifted Programs, along with Advanced Placement, the Governor’s Honors Program and the BCSS Spelling Bee.

Dr. Jones earned his bachelor's at Florida State University and his master's at Georgia State University. He completed his Doctorate (Ed.D.) in Educational Leadership from the University of Georgia.
Dr. Jones lives in Jackson County with his family. He and his wife Shelley have two children—Cassie, 19 years old, and Griffin, 16 years old. In his free time, he enjoys playing games, reading (fiction and nonfiction), traveling, watching sports, and playing fantasy sports.
