The Board of Education named Derrick Maxwell as the Interim Principal for Winder-Barrow High school on January 7th, replacing Al Darby. Prior to being named Interim Principal, Maxwell served in the Barrow County System central office in the position of Strategic Initiatives Administrator. He worked to support the opening of the new Barrow Arts and Sciences Academy.
Derrick Maxwell graduated from the University of Georgia in 2002 with a psychology degree. He started his career in education teaching seventh-grade life science. Maxwell received his Master’s degree in educational administration and policy from George Washington University and his Specialist degree in Education Leadership and Supervision from Lincoln Memorial University. In his 18th year as an educator, he has served in the role of a teacher, assistant principal, and principal. Maxwell is currently serving his 13th year as a school administrator and 9th as a school principal.
