Claire Nelms

Hi! My name is Claire Nelms and I love teaching 1st grade! I have been at Yargo since 2018. In the past, I have taught 6th grade, Pre-K, served as Media Clerk, and homeschooled my own children in the primary years and middle school years. Speaking of my kids, I have a houseful! My husband and I have 2 smart and active boys, 2 artsy and fun-loving girls, 1 rebellious puppy, 1 snobby cat, and 1 lazy bearded dragon. It is a busy home!  I grew up in Nashville, TN (Yes, I have met several country music singers!) and as an adult, I have lived in 7 cities across 4 states. We hope to call this area home for many years to come.

In the classroom, I believe in teaching to the whole child. Young children learn so well through hands on activities, songs and storybooks. First grade is an amazing time of growth. Your child will likely increase more reading levels than in any other year! In writing, s/he will increase from writing sentences to writing paragraphs. And in Math, they will move from counting objects to mental addition and subtraction. As a teacher, I enjoy sharing the joy of watching your child grow!!
