Dawn Garrett
Kindergarten Teacher
My name is Dawn Garrett and I teach kindergarten at Yargo Elementary. This is my 26th year of teaching in Barrow County, this is my 22nd year teaching at Yargo, and I have been teaching kindergarten for 19 years. I have taught 1st grade and have been an EIP Support Teacher before moving to kindergarten. I am married to my husband, Tim, and we have a son & a daughter in love (Will & Nicole), a daughter (Taylor), and two precious grandchildren (Kimberly and Cayden). My undergraduate degree is from North Georgia College in Early Childhood Education, and my master’s and specialist’s degrees are from Piedmont College in Early Childhood Education. My favorite color is red, my favorite candy is peanut M&M’s, I love to read, and cheer on my favorite football team the Georgia Bulldogs! GO DAWGS!
I grew up in Barrow County, both my parents are retired educators, and I wanted to give back to the county who educated me... I am so proud to teach here and be BARROW BOLD. I believe the education of students is a partnership between the student, the parents, the classroom teacher, and any support teacher. I also believe that good communication is vital and highly encourage my parents to contact me via email, call the school, and to please read all information that comes home or is emailed to you. Be sure to ask your child daily to share what happened at school today, what was their favorite part, and/or what was something new they learned. I look forward to working with my students and their families this year.
