On February 27, the Apalachee Bands, including the Concert and Symphonic Bands and the Wind Ensemble, traveled to East Jackson High School to participate in the Georgia Music Educators Association (GMEA) Large Group Performance Evaluation (LGPE). LGPE serves as an important assessment for our bands, similar to the Milestones or End of Course assessments. Each group performed four prepared selections for a panel of three judges and also showcased their skills with a sight-reading piece, where they had six minutes to study and then perform an unfamiliar composition for evaluation.
I am thrilled to share that the Apalachee High School Concert and Symphonic Bands, along with the Wind Ensemble, achieved superior ratings—the highest possible—from all performance adjudicators and the sight-reading judge. The Wind Ensemble delivered an emotionally moving performance that brought tears to both the students and me as we concluded our concert.
Beyond their exceptional musicality, these students exemplified the kindness and loving spirit of Apalachee High School and the entire Chee Nation. We should take tremendous pride in the accomplishments of our band members and ALL the students who walk the halls of Apalachee High School.
