Jan. 13 Update to AHS Families

detection system

AHS Families,

We look forward to welcoming our students back to campus tomorrow, Tuesday, Jan. 14. As we’ve shared, the morning arrival will look different starting tomorrow with the addition of weapons detection devices. Please know we will do our best to make the screening process go as smoothly as possible and we will continue to improve the process over time; each day will improve the process.

We ask for your help with this as well.

Students:

  • If you are driving or a car rider, please try to arrive 15 minutes earlier than usual.
  • Please take all Chromebooks/laptops and be prepared to hand to a staff member on the side of the device.
  • If the device shows a red light and beeps, please step aside to another staff member at a table for additional screening.
  • If possible, please limit the bags and items you are bringing to school.
  • Read FAQ concerning the devices.
  • Watch this short video for an example of what it will look like.

All of this will help expedite the process.

Families:

  • Please share the items listed above with your students to make sure they are aware and ready for what to expect.
  • We ask for your patience and understanding as it will be a slow process during these first weeks. Many districts with similar devices note the entry time lessens each day as staff and students become better acquainted with the process.
  • Read FAQ concerning the devices.

Everyone should be prepared to walk through the devices; we will have multiple stations in the morning and for students who arrive late. In addition to entrance screening, we have the ability to conduct various random location screenings throughout the day.

Thank you again for your continued support of our students and staff.
