The Faulkners, on behalf of Zaxby's, have always been so generous by providing educators the opportunity to receive funding through the Zaxby's Urgency to Serve Grant program. This year, Sims Academy is proud to announce that three of our teachers have been awarded grants!
Ms. Anabel Snyder applied for funding to support the Newcomer's Days of Service project, which focuses on targeting communication, citizenship, and job readiness skills. Students participating in the program will have the opportunity to volunteer in the community to support organizations providing services to our citizens and will learn the skills they will need to run their own community closet at Sims Academy!
Ms. Amy Wilson was also thrilled to receive the Zaxby's Urgency to Serve Grant on behalf of the Newcomer Academy. The money will be used to purchase the materials to create "Newcomer Book Bags" for elementary age Newcomers to the US. Bags will be assembled by our high school Newcomers and include resources for young learners to begin working on their English and literacy skills at home. Ms. Wilson's hope is that these bags will not only support the learning of our young Newcomers, but also demonstrate the supportive and welcoming nature of Barrow County.
Dr. Ridgway was so excited to win yet another Zaxby's Urgency to Serve Grant! She plans to use the funds to purchase Breakout EDU kits to encourage student engagement as students will be tasked to use their content knowledge in digital and physical breakout rooms.
Thanks again to the Faulkners and Zaxby's for always supporting our school community!
