Jan 8 - Returning to School

We are looking forward to seeing our students on Monday! In preparation, we all must do our part to keep ourselves and others healthy. The first step is to come to school healthy. Now is not the time to tough it out if you do not feel well. Please stay home, monitor your symptoms, and seek medical attention as needed.

Stay home if you are experiencing COVID-19 symptoms. These include fever (of 100.4 or higher), chills, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fatigue, loss of taste or smell, sore throat, muscle or body aches, congestion or runny nose, headache, nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea. If you have several of these symptoms, you should strongly consider talking to your doctor about getting tested.

Stay home if you have tested positive for COVID-19. Individuals who test positive must isolate for at least ten days. Click to read more details about isolating.

Stay home if you are awaiting a COVID-19 test result. We quarantined multiple students and staff last semester because they were exposed to someone awaiting a COVID-19 test result that later came back positive. Do not come to school if you have taken a test and are waiting on the results.

Stay home if you have been in close contact with someone diagnosed with COVID-19 or someone awaiting test results. If you are asymptomatic but think you have been exposed to someone with the virus, you should quarantine for 10 days. You may return on day 11 if you remain symptom-free.

Example: If you were exposed to someone with COVID-19 on January 3 and you are asymptomatic, you should consider getting tested. If you get tested, you must quarantine and schedule to get tested on January 9. Stay home while you wait on your test results. If you do not get tested, you should quarantine until January 13.

We often get questions about when to quarantine. Here are a couple of examples:

  • A third-grade student tests positive for COVID-19 and must stay at home. Should his sister also stay at home? Yes. Siblings in the same household should all quarantine if a family member tests positive or has symptoms of COVID-19. Please alert your child’s school if your child is absent due to COVID-19.
  • A sibling was identified as a close contact at their school and must quarantine. Do all children in the household need to quarantine? No. Other children in the household would be secondary contacts, and they do not need to quarantine. (However, if the sibling develops COVID-19 symptoms, other children in the family should quarantine.)
  • A parent was a close contact of someone at work that was COVID-19 positive, and they must quarantine. May the children come to school? Yes. The children would be a secondary contact, not a direct contact, and they may attend school. (However, if the parent develops symptoms or tests positive, then the child should quarantine at home.)

Classes resume on Monday, January 11, both online and in-person. If your child’s school must close and switch to digital learning, please ensure your family has a plan. If a school needs to close, families will be notified as soon as possible and provided with details.

Remember to wash your hands, wear a mask that covers both your nose and mouth, and keep your distance of at least 6 feet. When any person decides not to follow these guidelines, they are placing others at risk. Please help us to Save Our School year. #SOSBarrow
