In an effort to support our families, the Barrow County School System has published content on Digital Citizenship. We value the rich learning experiences that technology brings to our classrooms. We believe that our students must be taught how to use online resources responsibly. With parents and families as our partners, we can help our students to gain skills, understanding, and mind-sets that will enable them to be responsible and safe in digital environments.
The goal of the Digital Citizenship website section is to help you wade through all of the information. This collection of resources is organized into six main categories. Each category provides an overview and links to additional resources to help keep your child aware and safe in their digital spaces.
- Cyberbullying & Self-Image
- Digital Footprint & Responsibility
- Creative Credit & Copyright
- Online Safety & Privacy
- Information Literacy
- Healthy Balance
In addition, the Connected Parent Series invited Andy Boyle from Kennesaw State University to come speak about "Parenting to Connected Kids." Andy Boyle is a Instructional Technology Specialist and, more importantly, a dad concerned about how to protect his kids. He gave an in-depth and relevant presentation on February 13th at the Wimberly Center on how he approaches parenting with numerous resources and suggestions for how to monitor your children in the digital world. His entire presentation was filmed which is available for you to watch, along with a link to his presentation.
