The first time most individuals step foot on a court is during recreational ball in their early adolescent years.
Barrow Arts and Sciences Academy senior, Stephen Casey, has a deep devotion to athletics and academics.
“I fell in love with the sport. I’ve always been active and enjoyed running around. I had a ton of energy, and my parents suggested trying out for running,” said Casey.
Seventh grade was the first year that he joined the track team. He loved the entire experience of being on the track team.
He continued to play both basketball and track into his eighth-grade year.
When it was time for Casey to enter high school, he knew he wanted to attend BASA.
Casey thrived in his classes; he’d even try out new classes that he would have never imagined taking.
“I think my favorite memory was at the start of high school, I took a dance class and met my best friend, Andrew. We didn’t know what to expect but it clicked for us,” said Casey.
He enjoyed making memories with his friends and taking new classes.
Casey has been accepted to the University of Georgia and plans to pursue broadcasting sports media.
Congratulations, Stephen! Barrow County School System is proud of your hard work inside and outside of the classroom.
