Standout Senior: Georgia Rhinehart

Georgia Rhinehart

Georgia Rhinehart found herself astonished with the new Barrow Arts and Sciences Academy when it first opened. From everything from the campus, the innovative programs, and the teachers.

She was home schooled until entering BASA her sophomore year. Everything felt right for Georgia, she was able to pursue classes that aligned with her passions and interest.

“I chose to come to BASA because when I first moved here, it had just opened and I really loved the idea of it being a magnet school and giving students the opportunity dive deeper into what they wanted to do,” said Rhinehart.

The school was able to fulfill the criteria the Georgia was searching for. She pursued theater and chorus, while making new friends and memories along the way.

“Georgia is a conscientious student and a great role model. She represents BASA well and always shows what it means to be a BASA Blazer all FIRE'd up,” said BASA Principal Nick Scheman.

When she landed the lead role of Donna in the school’s production of Mamma Mia, she experienced a life-changing moment.

“It was a life changing experience because I really found the confidence in myself and to have others see that in me meant a lot. I was able to bring my dreams of performing to reality,” said Rhinehart

Most importantly, she found community on set. Bethany Barnes, BASA’s Theater teacher, made an impression on the students but especially for Georgia.

“She is just fun all around. I was also like, I had stage fright badly, but I wanted to perform, and she helped me to find the potential in myself and the confidence and helped me to discover that I wanted to be a theater teacher myself,” said Rhinehart.

Georgia recalls two other impactful teachers that she will remember for years on, Haley Mitchell, BASA’s Chorus teacher, and Keri Weiss, American Sign Language teacher.

“My chorus teacher has always been there to support me and to help me find my potential, and my American Sign Language teacher is a loving individual, she really cares for every student that comes into her classroom. You can really see the passion when she teaches about the deaf community," said Rhinehart.

Her teachers have been an inspiration to her. Some have even become influential role models for her and wants to pursue a career in theater education like Mrs. Barnes.

Georgia plans to attend Columbus State University after graduating and attain a degree in theater education. After she finished her first year at the University, she plans to go on a mission trip with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

Congratulations, Georgia! Barrow County School System is proud of your hard work inside the classroom and on the stage.
