Barrow County School System Health Services Manager Lance McNamara has a reminder about some important things to check off your health to-do list this summer!
- Schedule doctor appointments for well-child visits and sports physicals.
- Get a written plan of care from your child’s doctor for chronic health conditions (asthma, severe allergies, seizures, diabetes). These should be updated every year.
- Prepare to provide the school with necessary medication your child might need (prescription and over the counter medications, if taken on a regular basis).
- If your child requires prescription medication at school, talk to your pharmacist about a daily pill pack and request an extra prescription bottle for the school and field trips.

- Each child must have a GA Immunization Certificate (Form 3231) or a medical or religious waiver (exemption). Medical exemption forms are provided by your child’s doctor and must be evaluated yearly. Religious exemptions do not expire but must be notarized.
- Rising 7th graders need a pertussis (whooping cough) booster vaccination.
- Rising 11th graders need a meningococcal booster shot (MCV4) unless a medical or religious exemption is on file.
- Visit our Student Health information web page to access medical documents.
- Turn in health forms at the Board of Education this summer or during Open House at your child’s school.
