As part of the Barrow Arts and Sciences Academy's Health and Safety Week, a mock car crash showed students all that is involved after a traffic accident. Thank you to the following agencies for their time and help to participate in this important safety awareness event for our teens.
- City of Auburn Police Department (Sargeant Pharr)
- Barrow County Sheriff's Department (SROs Maxwell and Bradley)
- Barrow County EMS (Headed up by Captain Kevin Locke) - including AirEvac (Frank Palombo) and Myles Wrecker Service
BASA's "Just for the Health of It" week (April 10-14, 203) also targeted risks from the dangers of vaping to cyber safety. BASA Principal Nick Scheman says, "Our hope is that exposure to choices students may encounter, along with their potential consequences, may help them in decision-making for more positive mental and physical well-being."
Sargeant Pharr from the City of Auburn Police Department and Captain Kevin Locke from Barrow Emergency Services spoke to the students about the dangers of vaping. Students even created Public Safety Announcements about vaping. Barrow County Sheriff's Deputy Heather Stafford discussed cyber safety and Georgia Bureau of Investigation Special Agents Mobley and Gittins spoke about Human Trafficking.
Thank you to BASA Health Science Instructor Laura Wilburn for coordinating the safety week events and to all who made this week's life lessons possible.
