On Thursday, September 23, American Sign Language students at the Barrow Arts and Sciences Academy and Sims Academy participated in National Deaf Awareness Day. On this day, our ASL students chose to experience life without the ability to communicate verbally. Instead, the students spoke using ASL or other non-verbal methods. This experience allowed the students to relate to those who use alternate methods of communication in their daily lives. Students shared that the day was "difficult but it was an interesting experience". They also stated that it gave them a newfound respect for deaf people and deaf culture.
