Lieutenant Colonel Retired Todd A. Perkins began his military career by joining the Junior ROTC program at Merritt Island High School in Merritt Island, Florida. After high school, he joined the Florida Army National Guard on August 29th, 1989. Initially assigned to A/1-265th ADA, LTC Perkins graduated in 1992 from the University of Florida and was commissioned as an Air Defense Artillery Officer and is currently qualified as a Field Artillery Officer.
During his twenty-four year career, LTC Perkins served in several challenging assignments and levels of command on active duty and as a traditional national guardsman. His overseas deployments include a tour to Kuwait (2005), a tour to Iraq (2007), and a tour to Afghanistan (2012). LTC Perkins served as a force management officer and deployment readiness specialist for over six years on active duty with US Army Forces Command Headquarters at Ft McPherson, GA and Ft Bragg, NC serving as the Deputy Chief of Future Operations.
His awards include the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, and the Humanitarian Service Medal. LTC Perkins military education includes the Air Defense Artillery Officer Basic and Officer Advanced Course, the Field Artillery Officer Advanced Course, the Combined Arms and Services Staff School, and Intermediate Level Education from the Command and General Staff College; his civilian education includes a Master of Public Administration from Piedmont College and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Florida. LTC Perkins retired from the Georgia Army National Guard on 31 JAN 14 and began teaching JROTC at Winder Barrow High School during the 2013-2014 school year.
