Winder-Barrow High School (WBHS) is proud to announce that junior M.J. Dowdy has been named the State Player of the Week by Georgia High School Football (GHSF) Daily. This prestigious award recognizes M.J.'s exceptional performance on the field, as well as his admirable qualities off the field.
As the running back for WBHS, M.J. has rushed for an impressive 1,046 yards this season. His dedication and hard work have not only earned him this award but also the respect and admiration of his peers and coaches.
Every week during the football season, GHSF Daily selects one player from the entire state of Georgia for this honor. With over 400 high schools and thousands of players in the state, being chosen as the State Player of the Week is a significant achievement.
In response to receiving the award, M.J. Dowdy expressed his gratitude, saying, “I’d like to thank my family and my team for supporting me. I want to give thanks to God for blessing me with my talent. I am grateful for this honor.”
“M.J. is an all-around young man. Academically, in sports, and socially, he is one of those kids that everybody admires. This is a well-deserved award, attributed to his work ethic. It makes me happy that a person of his caliber gets recognized for being an outstanding human,” said WBHS Principal Rebbie Lichliter.
