Mr. Carnathan Receives Teacher Hero Award

Mr. Carnathan with award

Congratulations to Winder-Barrow High School Teacher Mr. Benjamin Carnathan for being one of ten teachers to win the HERO Award from Grace Ed. Technologies (GET). GET’s main partner is CENTEGIX, producers of the CrisisAlert emergency response solution being implemented in all our schools. They offer this award as a way to recognize teachers for their positive impact on the community.

Mr. Carnathan teaches Math and has also been helping teach Advanced Drama this past semester. GET owner Brent Coleman and WBHS administrators surprised him with the award and $500 during class on Thursday, May 16.

The nomination from WBHS administrators read:

"Mr. Carnathan's classroom presence alone makes him a hero as he is able to connect with all students, regardless of any subgroup, designation, or other method of designation at a personal level and get them excited about Algebra I (which may make him a SUPER "Hero"). That said, he has endured personal hardship this year through the loss of his father, a renowned former principal in our district, yet has not only maintained his dedication and strength as an instructor but has truly gone even farther as an educator hero. Unfortunately, our theatre teacher is no longer at our school, which left our musical in jeopardy. Mr. Carnathan took the reigns of that program and put in additional time during and outside of his workday to make sure the students could not only perform, but that they felt supported and validated in their efforts. Truly, Mr. Carnathan is pulling double duty and putting the same effort that makes him a rockstar Algebra teacher into a subject outside his department solely for the benefit of the students involved. We are lucky to have him. He is certainly a Hero in our building."
