Book Vending Machine

Did you know that Kennedy has a NEW Book Vending Machine? We are 5th Grade Reporters,  Bridget and Jaylynn, and we interviewed Ms. Hall. Ms. Hall is the amazing teacher who applied for a grant to get the Book Vending Machine for our school.

The Book Vending Machine is in the front of the school right next to the Media Center. Students can buy a token for the book vending machine from the PBIS school store, and the Good News Call of the Day for the school also earns a token for the vending machine. Luckily, the vending machine takes NO MONEY, just those special tokens.

To get a book, a student with a token puts it into a slot in the vending machine and presses the letter and number of the book that they want. The book will come out at the bottom flap. The student will then lift the flap to get out their book. Ms. Hall replaces the books about every month. She also makes sure each slot is full and replaces the books if they seem unpopular. Books that are chosen are books that KES students show interest in. They are looking for more nonfiction titles for the machine. The vending machine can hold 260 books at one time.

Ms. Hall thought the vending machine would be a good way to get books into the hands of the students and reward positive behavior. The vending machine is unique to the students because the teachers cannot get any books from the machine. We are proud to have the Book Vending Machine at KES and hope that we earn a token by getting GNCOTD for the school one day!
