Dr. Shane Lancaster

It is with great pride and honor that I serve as the principal at Bear Creek Middle School. As I enter my 24th year serving in the field of public education, I believe we are living in the most exciting, yet most challenging, time in the history of public education. Each day brings unforeseen circumstances and new opportunities to engage students, parents/guardians, and members of the community in ways that help shape the educational journeys and outcomes of students. I am blessed to serve with a dedicated faculty, staff, and community that values students as individuals and continuously strives to encourage and guide each student to reach his or her fullest potential.

I believe measuring student success entails much more than obtaining a specific score on a standardized test. Schools must focus on the skills students need to be successful in the classroom and beyond. These skills, at their foundations, include soft skills, math logic, and literacy skills. The development of such skills and successfully completing the required academic components of school can only be achieved by providing students with innovative, relevant, and challenging learning experiences. I firmly believe in partnering with students, parents/guardians, and other stakeholders to provide students with such experiences to help them grow socially, emotionally, and academically. As an educator, parent, and Barrow County resident, I am extremely proud of the rich history of BCMS and the continued commitment of the BCMS faculty, staff, and community. I am confident Bear Creek will continue to shine as a model of success in the school district and surrounding communities.

I firmly believe successful schools are rooted in regular communication and community partnerships. I welcome parent/guardian and community involvement in all phases of the educational process. I believe educational efforts are most effective when schools and parents/guardians have open and honest lines of communication.
