$5,000 Grant for Sculpture Project

Georgia Council for the Arts logo over AIM building

Our Arts and Innovation Magnet (AIM) Program will soon benefit from $5,000 thanks to the Georgia Council for the Arts (GCA) FY24 Vibrant Communities Grant. The grant will help fund a project called “Putting the Pieces Together.” Students and staff will design, build, and plant a garden sculpture inspired by the work of Isaiah Zagar. Students and teachers will design and build a Mosaic sculpture for the AIM Sculpture Garden at the Center for Innovative Teaching.

Through the work with ArtsNow Consultant and Artist, Shannon Green, students will participate in designing and planning the sculpture. Student teams will design their own mosaic sculpture using the work of Isaiah Zagar as inspiration. The entire student body will be involved in the final design and placement of the sculpture.

Professional development opportunities will also be part of this process. From researching the needs of an outdoor sculpture, measurements using 6th - 8th grade math skills, to inspiration from student learning across the contents, students and teachers will be able to incorporate multiple modalities and cross-curricular concepts. Mrs. Green will connect the artist’s work, student learning, and social-emotional learning awareness throughout her work with the students and staff.

At the end of the project, they will be able to reflect on the learning and process to help future projects for our school and community. Please check out our Press Release Here!
