Students have the potential to learn from every person and situation they encounter. Students, parents, educators, and community members all have a role to play in educating students. In an ideal world, everything would work well together and students would achieve success in school and life.
However, too often this isn’t reality. Many students encounter barriers and miss resources along the way. Some students develop physical or emotional problems that limit their ability to participate fully in school. Others are distracted from learning with concerns brought on by financial hardships, substance abuse, child abuse, lack of health care, school climate and a host of other issues.
The McKinney-Vento Education for Homeless Children and Youth program is designed to address the problems that homeless children and youth have faced in enrolling, attending, and succeeding in school.
Under this program, State educational agencies must ensure that each homeless child and youth has equal access to the same free, appropriate public education, including a public preschool education, as other children and youth.

Feeding Barrow is a Barrow County School System program that is aimed at closing the hunger gap for food insecure students. Since the launching of the program, Feeding Barrow has been able to provide over 300 students with foodbags. That is 84,000 meals per school year! We partner with three non-profit agencies to provide weekend meals to students who would otherwise not have enough food to eat.

But, it’s hard to know the needs of real people in your community because there’s never been a way to connect people who could really use help with people who want to offer it.
Enter a new app: Purposity. Its name comes from purpose + generosity, and it’s designed to connect the individual needs of people near you with neighbors, like you
