Barrow Book Partnership (Collaborative Partnership)
The dual approach of Barrow Book Partnership (BBP) not only provides free books for young children to keep at home, but additionally provides local library information and advocacy to encourage families to sign up for the full range of free materials and services located at public libraries. Initially, we identified four target populations to serve; the children in the WIC program at the Barrow County Health Department; BCSS Child Find children; BCSS Pre-K Lottery registrants; and Barrow County’s foster children. Additionally, during the WIC Nutrition classes at the Barrow County Health Department and during BCSS Pre-K and Kindergarten registration days and Child Find in-take families are given the opportunity to sign up for a free PINES library card.
For more information about this program please contact Ellen at firstname.lastname@example.org or 770-867-4527 or Beth at email@example.com or 706-367-9399. Book donations of new or gently used books can be made to the BCSS Central Office at 179 W. Athens Street in Winder. Food 2 Kids (Collaborative Partnership)
Food 2 Kids is a collaborative effort between the Food Bank of Northeast Georgia and Barrow County School System to provide sacks of kid-friendly food to children, K-12, who do not have enough to eat over the weekend. These bags are discreetly sent home on Friday afternoon with 215 of our most at risk students each school week. Double bags are provided before holiday breaks and 100% of the money contributed goes to purchase food for Barrow County students. Donations can be mailed to Shannon Derrick, 179 W. Athens St. Winder, GA 30680. Mentoring (Collaborative Partnership)
A program that has proven to be a powerful connection between community and school is the Mentor Program. Community members have the opportunity to share experiences and knowledge with students. The influence and guidance of a mentor can make a positive difference in a child’s life. Typically, close to 400 volunteers spend an hour of their time each week one-on-one with a student helping to teach valuable social skills, assist with homework or just be a “listening friend”.

Partners in Education (PIE) (Collaborative Partnership)
The Partners in Education program is a voluntary and collaborative relationship between an organization and the Barrow County School System for one year. This program began in 1991 as Akins Ford and a handful of businesses joined forces to develop partnerships that would link the community and the school system. This is an opportunity for businesses and schools to work together on a common goal: giving children a well-rounded education. Partnerships directly benefit students by giving them “real-world” experiences and incentives to help them excel.
As a school system and community, it is imperative that we work together to bring the best of both worlds to our children. The time and resources you have to offer are invaluable to our schools and students. For more information about the Barrow County School System Partners in Education (PIE) Program, contact Ellen Petree at 770-867-4527 or email.

The mission of REACH Georgia is to provide Georgia’s academically promising students with academic, social and financial support needed to graduate from high school and college prepared for work. It is a mentoring and scholarship program designed to encourage students, starting in middle school, to pursue their educational goals and dreams. 100% of funds raised goes to college scholarships. University partnerships are matching and double matching the public and privately funded college scholarships. The University of Georgia, Georgia Southern University, Georgia State University, Georgia Tech Institute of Technology, and Mercer University are all currently double matching the $10,000 scholarship awarded upon high school graduation.
